The capital is a great place to port, but alas, again will be very busy. It is not a large town, so skip across the main street and view the land.
There are charter boats available for salmon fishing, but be aware that $20 is needed for a license and if you’re going in June, it is probably not the best time for catching salmon. The Mendenhall Glacier is a wonderful excursion along with the whale watching charters. Some boats even guarantee whale sightings – you won’t get that anywhere else! Both the salmon ladder and cannery are interesting, along with the tour of the Alaskan Brewery. It is on your own, so feel free to take your time! There are also a couple of famous saloons here with gift shops.
Your ship will be docked close so you can return for meals during the day. |
