Going to Alaska by cruise ship? This is perhaps one of the most pleasing ways to see Alaska. However, don’t limit yourself to just 7-days on a cruise ship. Our recommendation is that you save your vacation dollars for another year so that you can really see Alaska by adding on a 7-day land tour.

Ketchikan is not only the salmon capital of the world, but it has also become the gift shop capital! This is a popular cruise stop and about 5 ships are here daily. Wow, I hope you will see the Alaska that starts in Seward or Whittier!
Jump across the docks and you’ll see a street lined with shops. Be sure to stop and see the Saxman village with totem poles and the lumberjack show (if you’ve never seen one) or take a flight-seeing tour to the Misty Fjords National Park. If your budget allows, this would be the #3 place to take a flight seeing tour (after Denali and Skagway). |

This narrow gauge train that travels between Carcross, Canada and Skagway, Alaska is a must see. It was built for the miners and the route follows the very difficult foot trail that they traveled. Take this as a round-trip from Skagway or from Carcross if you are traveling south in the Yukon.
