Playa Mia Beach Break, Cozumel, Mexico PDF Print E-mail

We chose to take the Playa Mia Beach Break excursion through Royal Caribbean while in Cozumel.  We paid $29.00 per person and that included the facilities at the beach and our drinks!  It was a $15 (per group) cab ride to and from the beach area.  There was also an option that included the buffet, but we had read that the food wasn't very good from the buffet, so we just took the drink option.  After talking to people there, we made the right decision!  We ordered some chips and guacamole and chicken nachos from our server.  The food was great and it was just enough for the three of us on the excursion.

There was a shopping area on the way in, as well as lockers, showers, and a nice bathroom facility.  As you walked in towards the beach, there was a cooking class area (most likely where the Mexican Cuisine Workshop & Tasting with Royal Caribbean and many other cruise lines) and a large seating area for the buffet.  Closer to the beach, there was a pool with a shallow area for the little kids and hammocks in the shade.  The beach was fairly wide - large enough for the 4 rows of chairs, but wide enough to have a beach volleyball game between the chairs and the ocean.  There were palm trees throughout, so between those and the beach umbrella that was included, there was enough sun and shade to appease us!

Royal Caribbean Port Stop: Cozumel PDF Print E-mail

Cozumel was a great stop for shopping, snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins and much more.  There was a nice duty free shop and other shops right off the port, but we took a $7 cab ride to the center of town for more shopping.  Lots of great things to buy including tequila, jewelry, t-shirts, hot sauces, maracas, pottery . . .tons of things to choose from!

Royal Caribbean Port Stop: Key West PDF Print E-mail

We arrived in Key West at about 7a and were to be back on the boat around 130p.  Kind of a quick stop and we wished we would have had more time to enjoy the island and explore a little more.

Part of our group had breakfast (that was to die for) at the Blue Heaven Restaurant. They tried the BLT, which ended up being an eggs benedict dish with canadian bacon, lobster and tomato.  They licked their plates it was so good!

The rest of our group opted for breakfast on the ship and then headed out to shop and see what else we could get into at Key West.  We headed past the Westin (great location and beautiful hotel on the marina) and on to Duvall Street where you could buy just about anything you wanted and they had a great Coach outlet too!  We nabbed some great deals there, as they handed us 20% off coupons as we walked in the door.

Entertainment on the Grandeur of the Seas PDF Print E-mail

There was always entertainment around the pool and throughout the day. Be it bingo, the casino, a hot legs competition, belly flop competition, or just music, there was always something to entertain you.  The entertainment crew did a great job keeping everyone engaged and incorporating the staff into the excitement.  One of the best things that we saw was their tribute to each of the countries represented on the ship.  A representative from each country, with their flag, stood around the pool, and it was really cool to see everyone represented.

The evening entertainment was good.  There was a show, some events from the entertainment crew and the dance club.  The casino was always in swing as well. We would have liked to see some sort of dancing option between 8p-11p.  We had a difficult time finding something to do most nights until 10p.  So, if you have trouble filling the lull, the later dining sitting might be a good idea for you!

Drinks on the Grandeur of the Seas PDF Print E-mail

It is never difficult to get a drink on a cruise ship!  There was a large pool bar, the bar in the Solarium and waiters everywhere around the pool deck.  The pricing was standard for a cruise line and if you got a mixed drink, it was well worth the money.

In the evening, there were several options for drinks, as most of the bars were open for business!  There was a bar in the casino, the dance club, at the pool, and some other locations.
