Livorno is the port for Florence, Italy. If you can, come back and spend more time in Italy. Take the ship transfer and do Florence on your own; it is easy to do with a little planning. Call ahead for reservations to see Michaelangelo's David (no cameras allowed, so stay long enough to really take him in - it is amazing!).
The Uffizi Gallery is also a very popular tourist attraction, but be sure to reserve your ticket in advance to cut down on your wait (especially during high season). The gallery is one of the oldest and most famous art museums in the world and is home to paintings by Botticelli, da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael to name a few.
The gallery is housed in the Palazzo degli Uffizi, once offices for the Florentine magistrates, the palace evolved into a display place for the artwork collected by the Medici (Duke of Tuscany) family and has been open to the public since 1765.
Spend some time to stroll the many interesting streets. Try a pizza, which is better, Italian or American? |
